Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth

I was listening to Gza’s Liquid Swords on my way to and from work today. I always forget how much I enjoy the early Wu Tang solo albums. They bring back a lot of memories for me as Wu Tang Clan was my entry point into hip-hop, though I was late to the party. This was only three years ago or so. Still, I’ve played catch-up pretty hard in the time since. For writers there is a lot to admire in rap, in the eloquence of the spoken word and its delivery. Find a decent verse and there are sure to be shivers down my spine, and the hair on the back of my neck will stand proudly to attention. The best of this, the one that alway sticks with me, is Saul Williams’ Shakespeare Act 3 Scene 2, the final breathless verse. Listen for yourself. You’ll see what I mean.
